SETi and Seoul Viosys Violeds Modules Proven to Disinfect 99% of Airborne Viruses in Recent Test Results

Sensor Electronic Technology, Inc. (SETi) and Seoul Viosys have demonstrated that an air conditioning and heating system with its ultraviolet LED Violeds modules has the performance to disinfect 99% of airborne viruses, verified through testing by Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL).

Sensor Electronic Technology, Inc. (SETi) and Seoul Viosys (KOSDAQ: 092190) the leading global providers of UV LED technology and subsidiaries of Seoul Semiconductor, have demonstrated that an air conditioning and heating system with its ultraviolet LED Violeds modules has the performance to disinfect 99% of airborne viruses, verified through testing by Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL). The testing demonstrated that Violeds is a breakthrough UV LED technology that helps prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other aerosolized viruses.

The air conditioning and heating system tested with the Violeds UV-C LED module installed resulted in 99% disinfection of the airborne viruses in a 650 cubic-foot (60m3) room within 30 minutes. The virus used in testing is bacteriophage (Phi X 174), which has a similar response to UV-C dosage as SARS-CoV-2 (Coronavirus 2).

The Violeds module is an optimized UV-C LED solution capable of simultaneously disinfecting various airborne viruses and bacteria, as well as air purification by disinfecting the air drawn into the air conditioner or heating ducts and eliminating viruses in the air. The module can be easily installed in air conditioning and heating systems while in use.

Together with SETi, Seoul Viosys has been promoting a campaign to install Violeds modules in the air conditioners and heaters of applicants since August 2020, targeting public and multi-purpose facilities to help reduce both air and surface pathogens in indoor spaces.

“With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global market for UV LEDs is expected to grow to $2.786 billion in 2025, according to Yole Développement, a leading market compound semiconductor research company. SETi and Seoul Viosys will continue to provide our patented UV LED technology for these applications as a proven and safe alternative for air purification and disinfection, without the use of hazardous materials that are found in mercury UV lamps,” said an official at SETi.

SETi currently has two sample sanitation products demonstrating UV-C LED technology available for purchase at VioledsStore.com
