Silicon Power Technology, a Sino-foreign joint venture and technology incubator, and Silvaco Inc., a supplier of EDA software and design IP, today announced their partnership to support the growth of the next generation of power semiconductor companies in China.

The Power Semiconductor sector is critical for China’s overall growth in new markets, such as electric-cars, and the continued development of high-speed trains, subways, consumer appliances and enterprise industrial electronics.

Silicon Power Technology, through its incubator program, provides a comprehensive platform for startup companies combining office space, management support, technology R&D support and fundraising. Located in the Tianfu Software Development Park in Chengdu, China, it is the first Chinese incubator dedicated to serving startups in the power semiconductor industry.

In partnership with Silvaco, Silicon Power Technology and its portfolio companies will receive preferential access to Silvaco’s industry-leading tools and solutions for both device and process simulation of power semiconductors. Silicon Power Technology and its portfolio companies will also benefit by the proximity of Silvaco’s technical support team in the same office location.

“China is making huge investments in its domestic semiconductor industry,” said ManGyu Hwang, General Manager APAC, Silvaco. “Power semiconductors is a fast-growing segment that addresses the needs of mobile, data center, and 5G telecom markets. According to the SIA, the power semiconductor segment grew 14.4 percent on total sales of $14B in 2018. Silvaco is delighted to help new companies in Chengdu take flight and build successful semiconductors businesses in this expanding market.”

“Silicon Power Technology’s incubator in co-operation with Chengdu’s University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) Power Integrated Technology Laboratory (PITEL) is forming an innovation cluster for power semiconductors, with both national and international recognition,” stated Jesse Parker, Silicon Power Technology General Manager. “Silvaco’s contribution of preferential access to its industry-leading tools and solutions for both device and process simulation of power semiconductors will be an essential ingredient to our business success.”

“Our new partnership is an excellent opportunity for Silvaco,” said Sharon Fang, GM of Silvaco China. “With Silicon Power Technology, we will be able to assist the most innovative power semiconductor companies in China and create new business relationships. Silvaco has established itself as the leading provider of tools and solutions for the development and design of power electronics.
