The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) today announced Erik Hadland has joined the association as director of technology policy. In this role, Hadland will lead SIA’s research, development, and technology activities, as well as its education and workforce development efforts. SIA represents 99 percent of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip firms.

Prior to joining SIA, Erik was a AAAS science and technology policy fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy, where he served as advisor to the director of the Office of Science, the nation’s largest supporter of fundamental physical science research. In addition, Erik worked on the Office of Technology Transitions’ Market Analysis team, where he investigated investment activities for nascent technologies. Prior to his government service, he was a senior logic process development engineer at Intel in Oregon. He did his undergraduate work at Wheaton College and holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Oregon, where his work focused on inorganic semiconductor materials, solid state synthesis, and structural characterization.
